Obituary of Gary Hudson Nelson

Funeral services for Gary Hudson Nelson, age 67, of Roanoke, will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at 11:00 am from Roanoke First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 2nd. Gary will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Gary went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2015. Survivors include his wife, Susan Bailey Nelson of Roanoke; two sons, Jeffrey Nelson (wife, Kristin) of Lanett and Chris Nelson of Roanoke; three grandsons, Rush Nelson, Reid Nelson and Ridge Nelson; one sister, Pam Lane (husband, William) of Roanoke; one brother, Keith Nelson (wife, Kathy) of Roanoke; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be Will Lane, Keith Nelson Jr., Billy Lane, Phillip Kirk, Brandon Kirk and Randy Cummings. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Piggly Wiggly. A resident of Alabama for the past 50 years, Gary was born August 6, 1947, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, the son of Clifford Ellis and Sarah Hudson Nelson. He was a member of Community Life Church. With his family, Gary was owner/operator of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. He was preceded in death by his parents.
