Obituary of Nellie Ruth Townley

Funeral services for Nellie Ruth Townley, age 85, of Roanoke, will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Center Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Jody Overton and Rev. Otis Hodnett officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Mrs. Townley will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday. Mrs. Townley passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015, at her home. Survivors include one daughter, DiAnn Townley of Roanoke; and one son, Harvey Townley of Roanoke. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mrs. Townley was born on July 5, 1930, the daughter of James Jackson and Mary Lee Heard Norred. She was a member of Center Chapel Baptist Church and had been employed as a clerk at Brown and Danner Drug Store. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, T.H. “Bud” Townley.
