Obituary of Winifred Farr McCard

Funeral services for Winifred “Freddie” Farr McCard, age 88, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jamie Taylor and Rev. Kevin Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2105. Mrs. McCard passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia Williams (husband, Billy Joe) of Roopville, GA, Linda Smith of Franklin, Ga, and Pam Sprouse (husband, John ) of Dunn, NC; one son, Gregory McCard (wife, Patricia) of Kingsport, TN; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Opal Blackmon of Roanoke; and one brother, Donald Farr of Roanoke. Pallbearers will be Austin Williams, Zack Williams, Will Thompson, Brian Burton, David Farr, and Dwight Blackmon. A long-time Roanoke resident, Mrs. McCard was born in Heard County, Georgia, on October 30, 1927, the daughter of Britt and Leola Hallman Farr. She was a member of Paran Baptist Church and worked for Magic Touch Cleaners and The City Cafe. Mrs. McCard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin Jackson “Jr” McCard; a son, Jacky McCard; a daughter, Sharon McCard; two sisters, Frances Sawyer and Virginia Yates; and three brothers, Lindsey Farr, Jimmy Farr, and Howard Farr.
