Memorial services for Carroll B. Platt, Sr., age 87, of Roanoke, Alabama, will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at 1:00 PM CST from the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia with a Military Chaplain officiating. Mr. Platt died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Riverview Regional Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama. Survivors include his wife, Mary Benton Platt of Roanoke; one daughter, Christina Halstead of Newnan, Ga.; two sons, Carroll Platt, Jr. of Washington, D.C. and John Marshall Platt, Sr. of Douglasville, Ga.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A St. George, South Carolina native, Mr. Platt was born August 10, 1928, the son of Marshall LaRoche Platt and Sallie Louis Fickling Platt. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War where he received the Bronze Star with V for Valor. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. Mr. Platt was a loving father, married to his wife, who is also a Korean Veteran, for 64 years. He had worked as a truck driver with Roadway Express for 45 years. Mr. Platt was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Sharon Lois Platt. Online condolences may be expressed at www.quattlebaumfuneralhome.com.
