Memorial services for Eugene “Gene” Edwards, Sr., age 70, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at High Pine Baptist Church with Rev. Richie Farrow officiating. The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Mr. Edwards passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Dianne Edwards of Roanoke; one daughter, Janie Edwards of Roanoke; one stepdaughter, Angel Greer (husband, Jason) of LaGrange, GA; four sons, Kevin Edwards of San Antonio, TX, Eugene Edwards, Jr., of Lanett, Benjamin Edwards (wife, Bonnie) of Valley, and Gary Edwards of Rome, GA; two stepsons, Robert Champion (wife, Judy) and Daniel Champion (wife, Ginger), both of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; his stepmother, Betty Edwards of Rome, GA; and five sisters, Sara Wriggly, Imanelle McNair (husband, Ed), and Barbara Ann Shaw (husband, Roy), all of LaGrange, Ga, Joanne Perguson of Hogansville, GA, and Linda Tidmore of Rome, GA. A Heard County, Georgia native, Mr. Edwards was born on April 2, 1946, the son of Lemuel Edwards and Rose Bowen Edwards. He was a member of High Pine Baptist Church and was a retired supervisor for Uniroyal Tire and Plantation Patterns. Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joyce Tucker and Shirley Bailey; and two brothers, Donald Whitehead, and T.L. Bowen.
