Services for Virginia Handley Schwartz, 64, of Wadley will be Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Webster officiating. Burial will follow at Wadley City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday prior to services. Mrs. Schwartz died Wednesday, Sept. 21, at her residence. Survivors include her husband, Martin Schwartz of Wadley and his children, Jennifer, Damian and Bryan; one sister, Rosemary Bonner Ragle of Freeport, Fla.; one brother, Henry V. Bonner of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jim Dunn, Bill Ragle, Trae Bonner, Joey Heweut, Scott Smith Billy Davis, Vince Bonner, and Jackson Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Purple Irises of the Red Hatters Society. Mrs. Schwartz was born in Roanoke on July 4, 1952, daughter of the late Mitchell Moore Handley and the late Mary Ethel Cox Handley. She taught school in Roanoke City Schools, in Louisiana and in Jefferson County, Ala. In recent years her passion was the Wadley Parish Food Bank, which she served as director. She was a member of Wadley First United Methodist Church and the Red Hatters Society and was an avid bridge player. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wadley First United Methodist Church or the Randolph County Animal Shelter.
