Obituary of Tom Staples, Sr.

Graveside services for Tom Staples, Sr., age 84, of Wadley will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Wadley with Tom Staples, Jr., officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, September 20, 2021.

Mr. Staples passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, at Clay County Hospital in Ashland, Alabama.

Survivors include: five daughters, Betty Daniel of Rockford, AL, Cindy Dennis (Larry) of Fairburn, GA, Ytonia Johnson, of Detroit, MI, Kathy McFarland of Roanoke, AL, and Annette Stallworth of Columbiana, AL; two sons, Tom Staples, Jr., of Lineville, AL, and Stanley Smith of Roanoke, AL; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Betty Nathan of Tampa, FL; one brother, Nolen Staples of Toledo, OH; special nephews, Mike Perry and Steve Perry; longtime friends, Braxton Garrett, Mr. Powell, Herschel Battle, and Jerome Wall; and longtime friend and coworker, Maurice Moore.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Staples’ grandsons and flowerbearers will be Mr. Staples’ granddaughters.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Staples was born on February 21, 1937, the son of Roy and Hattie Meadows Staples.  He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and worked at Handley Mills and JB Perry’s service station as a mechanic.  Mr. Staples was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine Zachary Staples; three brothers, Bill Perry, Roy Staples, Jr., and Billy Staples; and a sister, Christine Pressley.
