Obituary

Funeral services for Betty Thrower Ussery, age 92, of Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Fred Flowers officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Welch.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, July 24th.

Mrs. Ussery passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at her home in Roanoke.

Survivors include her son, Tim Ussery of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Megan Ussery of Roanoke and a brother, Richard Morgan Thrower (Carolyn) of Opelika.

 Mrs. Ussery was born in Lanett, Alabama, on October 6, 1930, the daughter of Grady and Salimey “Slim” Rice Thrower. She was Christian by faith and was a member of Souls Harbour Church. She worked as a spinner in the textile industry at Handley Mills and Amoco before retiring. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence “Hap” Ussery; three sisters, Barbara Ann Maddux, Christine Shelnutt, and Carolyn “Cecelia” Thrower; and a brother, Ralph Thrower.
