Funeral services for Burndean Clardy Rollins, age 90, of Wadley will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wadley First Methodist Church with Executive Pastor Marc Amason and Pastor Bradley Kimble officiating and Paul Hodge delivering the eulogy. A private burial will follow at Wadley City Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday before services begin.
Mrs. Rollins passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Tanner Medical Center– East Alabama in Wedowee.
Survivors include two daughters, Melisa Rollins of Anniston and Teresa Rollins Spence (Bill) of Lanett; two sons, Keith Rollins (Cindy) of Auburn and Chad Rollins of Opelika; and two grandchildren, Sarah Sims Bridges and Mary James Bridges. Mrs. Rollins is also survived by sisters-in-law Jean Taylor (Ralph), Margie Gay and Evelyn Rollins.
Pallbearers will be Jim Hall, John Hall, Mark Holmes, Matthew Knight, Butch McLain and Scott Powell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mitchell Cooper, Elliott Cotney, Jerry Hall, Dale Knight and Joel Perry.
Mrs. Rollins was born in the Cragford Community in Clay County, Alabama, on February 28, 1935, the daughter of James William 'Willie' and Evie Amason Clardy. At the age of three, she and her family moved to Wadley, where she resided her entire life. She was Christian by Faith and attended Wadley First Methodist Church while maintaining her membership at Almond Methodist Church. Mrs. Rollins was a 1953 graduate of Wadley High School where she was a Wadley High School Bulldog Cheerleader, Treasurer of the Beta Club, Parliamentarian for the FHA, modeled for the High School fashion show and was voted by the Senior Class as being 'Most Radiant'.
She was also selected by the faculty as 'Good Citizenship Girl' and represented Wadley High School during a weekend trip to Montgomery along with other girls selected from across the State. During her Senior Year, she and her classmates raised funds to visit Washington, DC for a Junior-Senior Trip. Their journey included travel by train, and upon arrival, the students toured the United States Capitol, The White House, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and other key landmarks across the city.
After 38 years of working as a machine operator at Clegg-Pennrose Manufacturing Company in Wadley, Mrs. Rollins worked an additional 18 years at Russell Corporation in LaFayette as a material handler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Calvin Rollins; daughter, Celia Denise Rollins; and brother, Grady Clardy.
Her hobbies included cooking and baking, flower and vegetable gardening, experiencing the beauty of nature, especially by watching hummingbirds, bluebirds and butterflies. She also enjoyed Square Dancing, 'Treasure Hunting' at Yard Sales and Flea Markets, picnicking, relaxing at the lake or State Park adventures, as well as traveling. Mrs. Rollins loved the holiday seasons and enjoyed decorating for each of them, accordingly. Her favorite pastimes were solving Word Search Puzzles, listening to Elvis Presley's Gospel Music and watching "The Lawrence Welk Show". Burndean was a devoted, loving Mother of five children and also loved her cats Blue and Velvet and little Chihuahuas, Henry and Gigi.
