I am so sorry to lose my first cousin and life long friend, William. Our mothers were sisters and grew up in Roanoke. William and I were 9 months apart in age. He was more like a brother to me than a cousin. We saw each other several times a year and I always spent a week with him in Roanoke during the summer and he would come to Montgomery and spend a week with me. So many stories ( not bad, just boys growing up ) Fishing at his Uncle James' pond, riding go karts, working in the hay field, working at Roanoke Wholesale Grocery, circling the DQ, and just having fun. Then after college he married Pam and I married Ginger and we spent many summers at Lake Martin, Skiing and just enjoying life and being young.We continued to enjoy our lives with various trips etc. William was so generous, he built many things for his friends and my Daughters. I loved that he continued to go to church at the Roanoke Methodist, where he grew up. All of Roanoke, you have lost one of the sweetest and kindest man Ive ever known. William Ferrell Lane Jr. I Love that Man!

Sorry to hear about William passing. He was such a good friend from high school, such a funny person and his personality was so great. We all had such a great time in Washington DC on our senior trip. Will never forget him as a great friend. God bless you Pam

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
