Born on March 27, 1934, to James Harris and Hazel Ordell Gunn Birchfield, she spent her early years in Truett, a small community near Wadley. She was an active and faithful member of Beulah Christian Church from childhood.
She graduated from Wadley High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bob, in 1955. She was extraordinarily selfless in all that she did. Her focus was always on others and how she could help someone else. Her greatest joys came from loving people and feeding them.
Ganmommie, as her “grands” called her, was an exceptionally good cook who would always prepare their favorite meals at a moment's notice. She sewed clothes, constructed costumes, and made everyone feel special.
She served as a member of the Randolph County Board of Education for three terms, further illustrating her love for children and their education.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Robert “Bob” Bugg, daughter Carol (Dale) Knight of Wadley and two sons, Alan (Kathy) of Auburn and Randall (Mally) of Oneonta. Her grandchildren are Suzanne (Michael) Brown, Ellen (George) Huckabay, Robby (Ann) Bugg, Katy (Josh) Conradson, Garris (Hailey) Bugg, Caroline (Jacob) Megehee, and Emily (Peyton) Whiteside.
