Obituary

Funeral services for Doris Barnes Hester, age 96, of Roanoke will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Sis. Shirley Meddick and Bro. Sam Wyckoff officiating.  Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Mrs. Hester passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Traylor’s Nursing Center.

Survivors include: two grandchildren, Jeff Hester (Christena) of Roanoke and Joey Hester (Ashleigh) of Franklin; son-in-law, Craig Carse; five great-grandchildren, Jeffery Hester (Kelsea), Jacob Hester, Jordan Hester, Donavan Hester (Ashley), and Grayson Hester; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Hester, Donavon Hester, Gray Hester, Joey Hester, Jeff Hester, Jordan Hester, and Jeffery Hester.

A Roanoke native, Mrs. Hester was born on July 1, 1929, the daughter of Elmer and Milati Collins Barnes.  She was a member of Lowell Methodist Church and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Hester also worked at Hester’s Service Station.  She loved her family and the Lord.  Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer Hester, Jr.; two children, Gordon “Jerone” Hester (Edna) and Teresa Carse; three sisters; and four brothers.
