Karene has been a dear friend from the moment I arrived in Roanoke June of 2012. We walked our dogs together, worked in pilot club together, worshiped together and just shared the good and sometimes not so good things in life. It hurts so deeply to not be able to be there at this time. She was so much like a sister. I’m praying for peace and comfort for all of the families feeling this loss. Lovingly and deeply,
Linda Barrow

Karene was known for being kind, positive, and encouraging to everyone. I am thankful for the life she lived and the love she had for her family and community. May God’s peace and presence comfort the family and friends who knew her best and will miss her the most.

Karene was a very special lady. ! She had a smile for everyone , whether she knew them or was just passing by them . She was just mold of her Mother — they were both ‘a people person ‘ !
She loved teaching children and learning them how to express themselves through books!
She touched many lives and will be greatly missed !
Rest in Peace my friend !!

She accused me of teaching her how to play poker. I’m not sure I deserve that much credit. I think I had a willing sister who was eager to learn. She usually won.
