Funeral services for Ruth Karene Childress Henson, age 74, of Roanoke, will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Roanoke First Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Colburn and Rev. Steve Baccus officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday, April 30th.

Mrs. Henson passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Tanner East Alabama Medical Center.

Survivors include her son, Wesley Henson (Patty) of Madison, AL; granddaughter, Aubrey Henson; sister, Donna McCullough (Ron); two brothers, George Childress (Mary Lynn) and Scott Childress (Anne).

Pallbearers will be Drake Childress, Whitman Welch, Sam Welch, Bo Bradford, William Morris, and Travis Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pilot Club.

Mrs. Henson was born on March 17, 1952, the daughter of Parker and Ruth Carpenter Childress.  She was a member of Roanoke First Methodist Church and retired from Roanoke City Schools where she worked as a kindergarten teacher and then later a librarian.  She was an active member of the community where she helped with the food pantry and soup kitchen. She also served as an accompanist at Lowell Methodist Church and taught Sunday school.  Mrs. Henson was also the past state governor for Pilot International and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
