Reflecting on the remarkable life of Mrs. Murr, whose journey began on November 14, 1935, as the beloved daughter of Bishop and Dot Weathers Cook. From an early age, Mrs. Murr knew she was destined to care for others—her dream of becoming a nurse was a guiding light, and she pursued it with unwavering dedication. After graduating as an RN from Carraway Methodist, she initially served as a floor nurse, later returning to Roanoke as a field nurse for the Randolph County Health Department. Her commitment to growth and excellence led her to serving many years as Director of Nursing at Randolph County Hospital before completing her public service at West Georgia Medical Center.

Faith, family, and friends were at the heart of Mrs. Murr’s life. As a lifelong member of Lowell Methodist Church, she embodied her devotion through teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and offering her musical talents as a lay pianist. Mrs. Murr, affectionately known as “GG,” cherished her loved ones and always had a hug, a prayer, a word of advice, a gentle reprimand, or a soothing touch ready for anyone who needed it. She created a warm and welcoming home on the County Line for everyone who stopped by—even the fly-bys.  Mrs. Murr’s legacy is a testament to her love for serving others, her deep faith, and her unwavering commitment to family and community.

Mrs. Murr is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Jim Murr; a son, Holly Murr; and a daughter, Doreen Murr Pate and her husband, Russell Pate.
