Funeral services for Terry Gaines “Tinker” Simpson, age 73, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 PM on Wednesday before services begin. 

Mr. Simpson passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Simpson of Roanoke; one daughter, Kris Holt; two sons, George Simpson (Jami) and Josh Simpson (Rebecca); stepdaughter, April Futrell (Megan); nine grandchildren, Madeline Holt, Alexis Simpson Braud, Annie Simpson, Jonah Simpson, Grace Lumpkin, Hope Lumpkin, Chandler Searcy, Kensie Toney, Georgia Simpson and Brooke Mowrer; and one great-grandchild, Palmer Toney.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Simpson was born on September 9, 1952, the son of Thomas Gaines and Rebecca Perry Simpson.  He was Baptist by faith and was a United States Army veteran.  Mr. Simpson worked as a mechanic while in the Army and after retiring worked as a truck driver for Warner.  He loved to fish, was an avid gardener, and loved being outdoors, and he also enjoyed football, NASCAR, and attending concerts.  Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Wayne Simpson; and a stepdaughter, Jessica Searcy.
