Funeral services for Betty “Joy” Allen, age 88, of Roanoke will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Brian Steen officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026. 

Mrs. Allen passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Bethany House in Auburn.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lisa Thrower (Terry) of Opelika and Donna Beaman (Tucker) of Wilmington, NC; one son, Jimmy Allen (Theresa) of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, Clay Allen (Eleana) of Roanoke, Gresham Allen of Roanoke, Caitlin Allen Brand (Scott) of Roanoke, Blake Smith (Ashton) of Auburn, Mary Elizabeth Fitts (Matt) of Greenville, SC, Trent Thrower (Rachael) of Opelika, Dawn Rooks (Jason) of Bowdon, GA, Will Beaman (Kelsey) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Amanda Davidson (Brian) of Virginia Beach, VA; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; several nieces and nephews; and special friends,Gene Ford and Tressie Ware.

Pallbearers will be Clay Allen, Gresham Allen, Blake Smith, Will Beaman, Luke Allen, and Tucker Beaman.

A Roanoke native, Mrs. Allen was born on February 3, 1938, the daughter of G. Rippley and Mae M. Benefield.  She grew up on Louina Road outside of Roanoke and graduated from Handley High School. After graduation, she married Joe Allen and moved to Auburn while he attended Auburn University. She became a mother and homemaker.  After Joe’s graduation, the family moved to LaGrange, GA, for a short time and then moved back to Roanoke, where she gave birth to three more children. While in Roanoke, as a mother and homemaker, she also opened and managed a fabric store.  After 1977, they moved to Lafayette, AL, for one year before moving to Opelika. 

After a few years, they moved to Jonesboro, GA. In 1988, they built a house on Lake Wedowee.  Mrs. Allen was active in several civic organizations, including the Master Gardeners.  She was also a member of the Swagg Homemakers of Wedowee and served on committees at the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee.  She enjoyed gardening, her family, and lake life.  After Joe’s death in 2005, she returned to Roanoke.  Mrs. Allen grew up attending High Pine Baptist Church but joined the Methodist Church after marriage. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Allen; one son, Mark Allen; brothers, Olin Benefield and Millard Benefield; and her sisters, Janet Mitchum, Eucal Huey, and Melba Crossett.
