Funeral services for R.C. “Speedy” Daniel, age 91, of Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Otis Hodnett, Rev. Stanley Daniel, and Rev. Jamie Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Heritage Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Mr. Daniel passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016, at the Lafayette Nursing Home. Survivors include: three sons, David Daniel (wife, Marjorie) of Roanoke, Phillip Daniel (wife, Pam) of Roanoke, and Roger Danny Daniel (wife, Caroline) of Crown Point, IN; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Shenan Motley, Matt Daniel, Austin Caffey, Ricky Taylor, Jonathan Head, and Trey Dorman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Powell, Wayne Ussery, Leland Penton, and Tim Jackson. A Randolph County native, Mr. Daniel was born on July 22, 1925, the son of Lee and Pallie Smith Daniel. He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church, worked as a superintendent at Handley Mills, and was a World War II Army Veteran where he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Nell Daniel; three brothers, Henry Daniel, Aubra. Daniel, and Herbert Daniel; and two sisters, Clara Nix and Lucille Morrow.
