Obituary of James Stephen Young

Funeral services for James Stephen “Steve” Young, age 66, of Opelika will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at 3:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Rev. Jeff Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Mr. Young passed away Monday, December 12, 2016, at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, Georgia. Survivors include his wife, Vicki Young of Opelika; two stepdaughters, Michelle Adamson of Rock Mills and Monica Gosdin (husband, Anthony) of Rock Mills; two grandchildren, Alexandria “Lexi” Grace Gosdin and Jesslyn “Jessi” Malane Gosdin; mother and father-in-law, Celia & Hope Whaley of Roanoke; and two brothers-in-law, Felix Whaley and Ronnie Whaley, both of Roanoke. Pallbearers will be Billy Barnes, Donny Knight, Thomas Rollins, Terrell Gosdin, Kyloy Laws and Josh Kirby. A Roanoke native, Mr. Young was born on April 26, 1950, the son of James Preston and Ethel Earlene Johnson Young. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War and worked for 30 plus years in maintenance at AmPex. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and aunts and uncles. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Gentiva Hospice.
