Carolyn Mitchell Lane, 95, passed away on January 31,2017 in Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Lane was born in Roanoke, Alabama, on September 15,1921 to William Doss and Lula Morris Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother, William Doss Mitchell, Jr, her husband, James Snuggs Lane, and her grandson, Wiley Dennis Wood, III. She was a graduate of Handley High School and attended the University of Alabama. As a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke, she served as organist of the Mens Bible Class and also served over 45 years as organist at the First United Methodist Church of Roanoke and pianist for the Young Mens Sunday School Class. She was the administrative officer of the Selective Service System in Randolph County during World War II and the Korean War. She was a founding member of the Randolph County Hospital Auxiliary, the Silhouette Club and the Roanoke Schools Association. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Lane Wood of Birmingham, Alabama, and Lucy Lane Hines (Jack) of Brewton, Alabama, three grandchildren, Lane Hines Woodke (Brian), Jack Hines (Amanda), Thomas Hines (Stacy) and six great-grandchildren. During the last years of her life she lived at St. Martins in the Pines. Her family is appreciative of the attention, care and compassion of the staff and our gratitude to you is immeasurable. Funeral services were held at 11:00a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Roanoke First United Methodist Church on February 2 with Rev. Chris Martin officiating. Interment was at Cedarwood Cemetery.
