Obituary of James Hughmiller "Hugh" Baker

Graveside services for James Hughmiller “Hugh” Baker, age 88, of Roanoke, will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 11:00 AM from Randolph Memory Gardens with Rev. Charles Franklin McCook and Rev. Colin Devin Dacus officiating. Quattlebaum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 AM on  Saturday.

Mr. Baker passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at his son’s home.

Survivors include his wife, Glentice “Penny” Baker of Roanoke; one son, James H. Baker, Jr. of Oxford, AL; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Martha Arnett and Amanda Golden.

Pallbearers will be James H. Baker, Jr., Samuel J. Baker, William L. Baker, Ruthanne Lynch, Steve Cummings, and Gerson Arnett.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Baker was born on June 21, 1929, the son of Grady L. and Inez Chase Baker. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and was a United States Army veteran. He worked as an engineer for Lockheed, Hayes Aircraft, and West Point Foundry and Machine. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Douglas B. Baker.

Memorials may be floral or the family requests contributions to Harmony United Methodist Church, 6008 Roanoke Road, LaGrange, GA 30240 or to one’s church of choice.
