Obituary of Charlie Fred May

Funeral service for Charlie Fred May, of Roanoke, age 90, will be 11:00 am, Thursday, June 24, 2010, from Roanoke Church of Christ with Bro. Gerald Romine officiating. Mr. May will lie in state on hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 5-7 pm. Mr. May died Monday, June 21, 2010 at his home. Mr. May is survived by his wife, Vera James May of Roanoke; three daughters, Sylvia (husband John) Kirby of Deleward, OH, Angela (husband Tim) Jackson of Caledonia, MS, Nancy May of Roanoke; one son, Charles (wife Lynda) May of Roanoke; two sisters, Loyette Hester Mount of West Point, GA, Lucille Henderson of Hendersonville, NC; one brother, Grant May of Valley; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charles May, Jr., John Douglas Kirby, Jr, Kenneth Daniel Kirby, Christopher May, Ryan Douglas Kirby, and Henry Vinson Bonner IV. Honorary pallbeares will be men of the Roanoke Church of Christ. Mr. May was born March 16, 1920, the son of Charlie Green and Ellen Mae Kirby May. He was a member of the Roanoke Church of Christ, was retired sheriff of Randolph County, a member of the Alabama Peace Officers and a member of Rock Stand Community Club. Mr. May was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenneth May; one brother, Joe May. Flowers will be accepted or donations to Alzheimers Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
