Obituary of Clara Bell Gibbs

Funeral services for Clara Gibbs, age 82, of Bowdon, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 1:00 PM (EST) from Corinth Baptist Church in Bowdon with Terry Gibbs, Rev. Brian Smith, and Rev. Gary Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home and Rainwater Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at Rainwater Funeral Home in Bowdon, Georgia from 5:00-800 PM (EST) on Friday, January 23, 2015. Mrs. Gibbs passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at her residence. Survivors include: four daughters, Denise Upchurch (husband, Ray) of Carrollton, GA, Darlene Young of Carrollton, GA, Diane Hanson (husband, Tim) of Bowdon, GA, and Delaine Young (husband, Junior) of Carrollton, GA; two sons, Garry D. Gibbs (wife, Debra) and Terry D. Gibbs (wife, Jan), both of Bowdon, GA; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rae Virginia Nicholson of Carrollton, GA; and two brothers, Charles Smith (wife, Joyce) and Brian Smith (wife, Penny), both of Hopewell, AL. Pallbearers will be Nick Smith, Kevin Gibbs, Scott Young, Adam Hanson, Brock Bibbee, Jaden Traylor, Jaxon Ledbetter, and Hayden Young. Honorary pallbearers will be the Widow Women Breakfast Club. A Bowdon resident most of her life, Mrs. Gibbs was born in Cleburne County, Alabama, on June 28, 1932, the daughter of John Marshall “Buzz” and Jewell Byrd Smith. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Bowdon and worked as a seamstress for Lamar Manufacturing. Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Gibbs, Jr.; one daughter, Donya June Gibbs; two brothers, Alton Smith and Levus Smith; and three sisters, Alice Cross, Debrah Burson and Nena Johnson. The family will accept flowers or donations to Tanner Hospice.
