Obituary of Mabrey Gerald Stitt

Funeral services for Mabrey Gerald Stitt, age 82, of Roanoke, will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015, at 11:00 AM from Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Burns, Rev. Larry Armstrong, and Rev. Tim Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 on Thursday, January 29, 2015. Mr. Stitt will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 10:00 AM.
Mr. Stitt passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at East Alabama Medical Center.
Survivors include: his wife, Erma Jean Stitt; four daughters, Betty Finlayson (husband, Rod) of Boise, ID, Barbara Minor (husband, Jeff) of Covington, GA, Peggy Mitchum (husband, Jerry) of Roanoke; and Kathy Potts (husband, Mike) of Roanoke; one son, Gerald Stitt (wife, Felecia) of Roanoke; eleven grandchildren, Tony Mitchum, Jessica Dial (husband, J.B.), Chris Potts (wife, Tiffany), Kori Lane (husband, Billy), Melissa Bailey (husband, Josh), Ashleigh Christopher (husband, Michael), Steven Finlayson, Alex Finlayson, Brant Stitt, Cody Minor, and Mallory Brown.
Pallbearers will be Tony Mitchum, Chris Potts, Brant Stitt, Steven Finlayson, Alex Finlayson, Cody Minor, Billy Lane, Michael Christopher, and J.B. Dial.
A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Stitt was born on August 4, 1932, the son of Mabrey and Bertha Green Stitt. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the owner of Stitt Tractor Company, a cattle farmer, and a retired Randolph County employee. He was past president of Roanoke City School’s PTA and Band Boosters, The Cattlemen’s Association, Jaycees, past Board Chairman of Roanoke City Schools, and Randolph County Hospital. Mr. Stitt was also a lifelong deacon of the First Baptist Church in Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Jared Chambers; and one sister, Jimmie Lee Harwell.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Life Choice Hospice or Trinity Baptist Church.

About Us
Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
