Obituary of Lizer Ila Mae Etchison

Funeral services for Lizer Ila Mae Etchison, age 82, of LaGrange, formerly of Randolph County, will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Stiles Akins officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Mills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2015. The family will receive friends at the residence of Lewis Akins, 378 Circle Dr., Roanoke, AL 36274.
Mrs. Etchison passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Lagrange Hospice.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Lynn Etchison of Roanoke and Bobbie Jean Etchison Fuller (Michael Pursley) of LaGrange; four sons, Benny Ray Akins (wife, Darlene) of Lineville, Johnnie Lewis Akins of Roanoke, Travis Odell Etchison of Dadeville, and Joel Dewayne Etchison (wife, Michelle) of Cusseta; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Minnie Bee Camp of Valley; and one brother, Freeman Roscoe Akins, Jr. of LaGrange.
Pallbearers will be Dewayne Akins, Paula Akins, Joe Fuller, Tim Fuller, Gabrielle Thornton, and Brandon Etchison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnnie Lewis Akins and Terry Wayne Hopper.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Etchison was born on March 9, 1933, the daughter of Freeman Roscoe Akins, Sr. and Sara Melinda Thompson. She retired from West Georgia Pepperell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Cecil Etchison; and eight children.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
