Funeral services for Robert Ford, age 91, of Roanoke, will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at 10:00 AM from Roanoke First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Mr. Ford will lie in state one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.
Mr. Ford passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015, at Traylor’s Nursing Center.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Ford of Roanoke; one son, William Edward “Bill” Ford, Sr. (wife, Pam) of Roanoke; two daughters, Ellen Oakley of Alta Loma, CA, and Cathy Stone (husband, Ed) of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Members of the Roanoke First United Methodist Church Men’s Bible Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mr. Ford was born on March 20, 1924, the son of William Byrd and Urbis Longshore Ford. He was a member of the Roanoke First United Methodist Church, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, the owner of Ford’s barber shop, and had been employed with Transco, now known as Williams Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sara Ford McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Roanoke First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, Roanoke, AL 36274, or the church of one’s choice.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
