Funeral services for Letha Mae Mapp Howard, age 85, of Roanoke will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015, at 1:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shannon Mapp officiating. Burial will follow at Wehadkee Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2015.
Mrs. Howard passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Roanoke Health Care.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mae Dean Burks (husband, Jimmy) of Roanoke; two sons, Wilford Yates Howard (wife, Brenda) of Carrollton, GA, and Lon Glenn Howard (wife, Susan) of Roanoke; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Marie Gray of Roanoke; and one brother, Jerry Mapp of Wadley.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Howard was born on November 2, 1929, the daughter of Emory and Rosie Lee Fincher Mapp. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and worked as a sewing machine operator for Palm Beach. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Holley Yates Howard; and six brothers, Billy, Joe, Richard, Ernest, Oneal, and Benny Mapp; and two sisters, Sara Norred and Hazel Owens.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
