Obituary of Marjorie Woodrough Gay

Funeral services for Marjorie Woodrough Gay, age 95, of Five Points will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 11:00 AM from Standing Rock Methodist Church with Pastor Milton Newton and Rev. Paul Messer officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 28, 2015. Mrs. Gay will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Mrs. Gay passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at her residence.
Survivors include: one son, George Wilder (wife, Cynthia) of Five Points; one grandchild; one niece, Nancy Morse (husband, Tommy) of Pike Road, AL; and a host of cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be the members of the Stateline Hunting Club.
A long-time Chambers County resident, Mrs. Gay was born on in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 23, 1920, the daughter of Kendall Aldrich and Dorothy Emma Morrow Woodrough. She was a member of Standing Rock Methodist Church and was a dairy and beef farmer. Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Wilson Gay; and her brother-in-law, John C. Gay.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
