Funeral services for Mrs. Thea Dunn Cotney, age 96, of Roanoke will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 2:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Roanoke with Dr. Ben Bailie officiating. Burial will follow at Daviston Baptist Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 PM on Wednesday.
Mrs. Cotney passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Traylor’s Williamsburg Manor I.
Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Hutcheson (husband, Donald) of Douglas, GA, and Kay Haynes (husband, Russ) of Fairhope, AL; one son, Don Cotney (wife, Cheryl) of Athens, GA; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A Tallapoosa County native, Mrs. Cotney was born on January 3, 1919, the daughter of Harry Herod and Maggie Wyatt Pursell Dunn. She was a graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) and retired after many years of teaching in the Roanoke City School System. She was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Roanoke. Mrs. Cotney was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold D. Cotney, Jr.; one son-in-law; one great-grandson; three sisters; and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the First Baptist Church of Roanoke or the Daviston Baptist Church. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Traylor’s Retirement Center- Manor I and II for their loving care and support.

About Us
Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
