Tommy, after speaking with you the other day, I felt that we all would lose Wayne soon.
I praise God that he did not have to suffer for to long. That was one of my prayers when I lost Jack. I thanked God for taking him before he suffered too long. That was a great confort.
Although we will always miss them we will always have them with us and someday we will see them again.
Wayne through his church always had our Lighthouse mission in his heart and always made contributions when they were able which was most every month.
We loved him and will miss him.
God Bless, Linda

Until I had Mr. Cato as a teacher, I did not enjoy history. In fact, I would say that I hated history class. However, he made the subject come alive, taking the class to events around the civil war, World War I, and World War II, as if he knew the leaders themselves. Thanks to him, I came to enjoy history and still consider myself a student of history to this day.
Since those days at Handley High, I have become a teacher myself. Even though I teach math instead of history, his influence was a key factor in my decision to teach. I was greatly saddened to hear of his loss, and I only regret that I have not been to visit him in the past few years. His leadership in the drama department also helped this shy young man gain confidence in front of a crowd, which has helped both my teaching career and my ministry as a pastor.
He was a great teacher, encourager, and such a joy to be around. His combination of humor, love of students, and Charisma that demanded respect is rare, and I only hope to come close as I gain teaching experience. My prayers are with the family and friends as they mourn the loss of a great man.
Blessings,
Rev. Ken Bowen

Mr. Cato always made class fun and interesting. I remember one day he said it was so hot in his classroom that it would make your hair curl. I just had a perm, and my hair was really frizzy and culry. He looked at me and laughed and apologized, LOL. He was loved by all his students and will be missed. My prayers are with his family.

Our lives are touched by many as we grow older but not everyone earns a place in our hearts. Mr. Cato certainly was one that did in mine and so many others! I had the honor of having him as a teacher. He made every single person in his class feel as though he would have taught the class just for them as we soaked up every word he had to say. His passion for teaching was displayed every day in his classroom. I became a teacher because of the impact that he had in his classroom and on his students. You will be missed, Mr. Cato! Prayers for those he leaves behind.

Wayne was one of those rare teachers who had his students on the edge of their seats fearful that would miss a second of his teaching before the bell. He could absolutely enthrall you whether teaching or in general conversation. He was also a character! Wayne had me in stitches every time I was around him. The world will never be the same without Wayne Cato!
Praying for his family and the vast amount of people who loved him so dearly

RIP Mr. Cato !

It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. People move through our lives, but only a few create life changing and inspiring influences! Wayne Cato taught history..... but he INSPIRED us to love it and truly understand the human story. He brought those printed facts to life. So many of us tell our children about him and how he taught. So many chose education as a profession with him as the inspiration and model for how to teach. These influences are a part of a wonderful LEGACY left by Mr. Cato. He helped so many of us get ready for college - though we may not have realized it. Lectures, notes, and discussion - not stale facts & boring memory work! He inspired leadership and good behavior. He helped with Key Club - future leaders! You can't be a great teacher and mentor and not expect the young person to not work hard and try their best. He manage these type lessons, but with a twinkle in his eye at the same time. He always enjoyed good humor and wit, but expected respect and a good work ethic!
Life is a story.... Mr. Cato told great stories, inspired and touched so many of us.... and we were blessed to be a part of his story. My heart breaks at knowing he is gone from our community.... I will miss getting a big hug, seeing his smile, hearing him laugh, and having such great conversations!
