OBITUARY Funeral services for, Mr. James Raymond Landers, age 92, of Alexander City, formerly of Roanoke, will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 12, 2010, at the Roanoke First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Baccus, Rev. John Mann and Rev. Dee Dowdy officiating. Mr. Landers will lie in state from 9:30 until time for the service at the church. Burial will follow in Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Landers died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Russell Medical Center. Mr. Landers is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Elizabeth Allyne Huey Landers of Alexander City; two sons, Jim (wife Jan) Landers of Alexander City, Bob (wife Fran) Landers of Pendleton, SC; four grandchildren, Jim Landers, Dianne Waites, Chris Landers and Michelle Cooper; three step-grandchildren, Jason Smith, Stuart Smith, and Michael Smith; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two sisters, Nell Shelnutt of Roanoke, Laura Denney of Hogansville, GA. Pallbearers will be Jim Landers, Chris Landers, Jeff Waites, Tony Cooper, Sawyer Landers, Michael Smith, Stuart Smith, Jason Smith, Myles Landers and Wesley Waites. Honorary pallbearers will be Young Men's Sunday School Class, Tommy Cunningham, and Paige Enloe. Mr. Landers was born, October 9, 1918, the son of A. I. and Emily Hammond Landers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former owner of State Farm Insurance for thirty-five years and served in the United States Navy during WWII. Mr. Landers was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, Roanoke, AL 36274, in his memory.
