Obituary of Hulett Hester

Graveside services for Hulett Hester, age 95, of Lafayette, will be held on Wednesday, October 19, at 2:00 PM from Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Mike Brewer officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 PM on October 19 prior to the services. Mr. Hester passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Lafayette Extended Care. Survivors include: niece, Katrina Upchurch (husband, David) of Munford; granddaughter, Rhonda Burney Shaner; grandson, James Burney; a great grand-son, Brandon Shaner; and several other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ron Harrell, Frank Sharpe, Kevin Smith, Tim Smith, and other family members. A Randolph County native, Mr. Hester was born on May 21, 1921, the son of Allen and Purilla Craven Hester. He attended Trinity Baptist Church and worked as a doffer at the Lanett Mill. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Frances Brown Hester; his second wife, Glennie Elizabeth Hester; his daughter, Letha May Burney; two brothers, Hugh and Huel Hester; and two sisters, Edna Mae Hester Smith and Claude Bell Bowen Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church or Chattahoochee Hospice.
