Obituary of Sue Awbrey Bailey

Funeral services for Sue Francis Awbrey Bailey, age 94, of Roanoke, will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday. Mrs. Bailey passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at EAMC-Lanier in Valley, AL. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Nelson of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Nelson (wife, Kristin) of Valley, AL, and Chris Nelson of Roanoke; and three great-grandchildren, Rush, Reid, and Ridge Nelson. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mrs. Bailey was born on January 14, 1922, the daughter of Tom Lewis and Lavada Smith Awbrey. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke and had worked for Mansour’s in Lagrange, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buck Bailey; one son, Johnny Bailey; three sisters, Ruth Johnson, Virginia McKissac, and Dorothy Bradshaw; two brothers, Lewis Awbrey and Buster Awbrey; and one son-in-law, Gary Nelson.
