OBITUARY Funeral services for, Mr. Jim Murr, age 83, of Roanoke, will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 15, 2011, from the Lowell Methodist Church with Rev. Bo Lloyd and Rev. Ed Grooms officiating. Mr. Jim will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial to follow in Cedarwood Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home on Friday, January 14th. Mr. Murr died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 The Inn, at Traylor Nursing Home. Mr. Murr is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Gwendolyn Cook Murr of Roanoke; two daughters, Doreen (husband Russell) Pate of Panama City, FL, Mary (husband John) Mims of Albuquerque, NM; two sons, James Holly Murr of Roanoke, John Benjamin (wife Belinda) Murr of Roanoke; two sisters, Ruby Tatum of Vandiver, Dean Cleckler of Clanton; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Donnie Anthony, Doug Moore, Bill Foster, Felix Weathers, Cliff Howard, Benji Johnson. Honorary pall bears will be members of Scout Troup #26. Mr. Murr was born, May 16, 1927, the son of John Wesley and Annie Popwell Murr. He was a member of Lowell Methodist Church and had been a poultry and cattle farmer. Mr. Murr served in the United States Air Force during WWII. Mr. Murr was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one brother.
