Obituary of Robert Jewell Waldrep

Funeral services for Robert “Bobby” Jewel Waldrep, age 82, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Broughton) with Mike Hanners, Jimmy Brand, and Luther Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Mr. Waldrep will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday. Mr. Waldrep passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017, at his residence. Survivors include: one daughter, Tina Chantay McBride (Milton) of Jemison; two sons, Ricky Dale Waldrep (Cathy) of Jemison, AL, and Timmy Gene Waldrep (Anita) of New Site, AL; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Melba J. Waldrep and Annie R. White, both of Roanoke; and one brother, Thomas “June” Junior Waldrep of Roanoke. Pallbearers will be Brian Waldrep, Jonathan Waldrep, Tommy Waldrep, David Windsor, Nathan Davenport, Jacob Lovelace and Asher Lovelace. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Waldrep’s granddaughters, Tammy Waldrep Sprayberry, Brandy Waldrep Morris, Amber Waldrep Lovelace, Brittany Langston Davenport, Leah Waldrep House, and Jennifer Waldrep Molina. A Randolph County native, Mr. Waldrep was born on December 17, 1934, the son of Robert L. and Lee Ella Bassett Waldrep. He worked as a spinner for West Point Pepperell. Mr. Waldrep was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Aaron Waldrep; four brothers, Ford “Doc” Waldrep, Hershel Fred Waldrep, Herbert “Dolly” Waldrep, and J. W. Waldrep; and one sister, Iva Lee Jones. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
