Obituary of Jewel Edward Ray

Funeral services for Jewel Edward “Ed” Ray, age 87, of Opelika, formerly of Roanoke,
will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 3:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14 before services begin.
Mr. Ray passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Arbor Springs Health & Rehab in Opelika.
Survivors include: three daughters, Judy and Tim Bennett of Wadley, Marsha and Dennis Teel of Opelika, and Sandy and Lee Daniel of Roanoke; one son, Bruce and Judy Ray of Woodland; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Gardei of West Point, Janie Mitchum of Roanoke and Ruth Lee of Atlanta; and one brother James “Jimmy” Ray of Roanoke.
Pallbearers will be Jason Ray, Jake Hammock, Trace Scalf, Brandon Bennett, Jakob Daniel, and Nathan Teel.
A long-time Roanoke resident, Mr. Ray was born in LaGrange, Georgia, on April 9, 1929, the son of James William “Bill” Ray, Sr., and Mary Borders Ray. He was a member of Center Chapel Baptist Church and retired from Amoco where he worked in Quality Control. Mr. Ray was a United States Air Force Veteran and was also a member of the Roanoke Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia Ray.

About Us
Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
