Obituary of Willie Clyde Holley

Funeral services for Willie Clyde Holley, age 88, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11:00 AM from St. Paul Baptist Church with Rev. J. D. Darden officiating. Burial will follow at Peace and Goodwill Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2017. Mr. Holley will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.
Mr. Holley passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Roanoke Health Care Center.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Holley of Roanoke; one daughter-in-law, Tammi Holley; two grandchildren, Tevin Holley and Tonya Rhodes, both of Roanoke; four great-grandchildren, Tyrik Treadwell, Tydrick Treadwell, Taylon Treadwell, and Taylor Treadwell; one sister-in-law, Sara Clark (husband, Tobie); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be William Treadwell, Chris Treadwell, Larry McFarland, John Stevenson, Ricky Sledge, and Jimmy Dunn..
A Roanoke native, Mr. Holley was born on April 17, 1928, the son of Josh and Beulah Green Holley. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School superintendent, and was the first Sunday School teacher. He served on the Roanoke Housing Authority Board for 30 years and was a member of Western Lodge 538 – Masonic. Mr. Holley was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean conflict and worked for McCord Lowe Motors and also at The Randolph Leader for 46 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Holley; two sisters, Effie Henderson and Cynnie Holley; and one brother, General Holley.

Quattlebaum’s was founded in 1930 by Robert B. Quattlebaum on Roanoke’s West Point Street. Relocated to Maple Drive, Quattlebaum Funeral Home was just across from Knight Sanatorium for many years. In 1953, a new building was constructed on College Street – where the funeral home is today.
