Obituary of Marie Dean Mapp Gray

Funeral services for Marie Dean Mapp Gray, age 82, of Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 3:30 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shannon Mapp and Rev. Calvin Trammell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Monday, April 17, 2017. Mrs. Gray passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Georgia. Survivors include: niece, Mae Dean Burks of Roanoke; a brother, Jerry Mapp of Roanoke; and a number nieces, nephews, and family. Pallbearers will be Lou Howard, Bobby Norred, Kenneth Mapp, Lee Mapp, Mike Owens, David Mapp, and Jonathan Mapp. A Lifelong Roanoke resident, Mrs. Gray was born in Chambers County on January 31, 1935, the daughter of Emory and Rosa Lee Fincher Mapp. She was a member of Lowell United Methodist Church and worked as a seamstress for Palm Beach and Roanoke Fashions. She also volunteered at the Senior Center in Roanoke. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Horace Gray; six brothers, O’Neal Mapp, Benny Mapp, Earnest Mapp, Joe Mapp, Billy Mapp, and Richard Mapp; and three sisters, Sara Mapp Norred, Letha Mae Mapp Howard, and Hazel Mapp Owens.
