Obituary of Edward Matthew Driver
Funeral services for Edward Matthew Driver, age 86, of Roanoke, will be held Monday, July 3, 2017, at 11:00 am from Welcome Home Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Quattlebaum Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 2nd. Mr. Driver will lie in state at the church for one hour beginning at 10:00 am on Monday.
Mr. Driver passed away peacefully at Traylor’s Nursing Home on Friday, June 30, 2017.
Survivors include his wife, Alene H. Driver of Roanoke; two daughters, Doris Danford (husband, Bobby) of Moultrie, Ga. and Teresa Barfield (husband, David) of Roanoke; three sons, William “Billy” Driver, Gary Driver and Larry Driver (fiancée, Michelle Watson), all of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jody Driver, Chris Driver, D J Barfield, Matthew Driver, Mark Driver and Luke Driver. Honorary pallbearers will be Jody Bozeman and Scott Buckner.
A Cleburne County native, Mr. Driver was born August 12, 1930, the son of Edward Columbus and Liddy Overton Driver. He was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church, an Army veteran of the Korean War and had retired from Amoco Fabrics and Fibers. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Driver; a son, Terry Lee Driver; 8 sisters, Grace Ellis, Effie Spradlin, Lois Melton, Virginia Underwood, Pauline Burke Wright, Vescar Threlkeld, Dessar Daniel Thomas, and Myrdie Potts; and 9 brothers, Monroe Driver, Lester Driver, John Driver, Woodie Driver, Rudolph Driver, Albert Faulkner, Warner Faulkner, Ruben Faulkner, and Alonzo Faulkner.
