Obituary of Joyce Staples

Funeral services for Joyce Staples, age 83, of Roanoke, will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Bro. Steve Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Broughton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 25th.

Mrs. Staples passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Traylor Retirement Community.

Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Kirby (husband, Wayne) of Roanoke; one son, Ray Staples (wife, Doris) of Roanoke; three sisters, Janice Hodges and Ellen Ferrell, both of Roanoke, and Elsie Mae Martin of Arkansas; grandson, Dusty Staples (wife, Bridgett) of Roanoke; two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dusty Staples, Wayne Ussery, Blake Smith, Colt Tipton, Greg Wilson, and Marion Staples..

A Randolph County native, Mrs. Staples was born on July 12, 1934, the daughter of Allen and Eula Mae Martin Daughtrey.  She was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church and had worked as a seamstress with Fashion Star.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Ray Staples; one brother, Howell Daughtrey.
