OBITUARY Funeral services for, Mr. James Shaffer Wier, age 92, of Roanoke, will be held 11:00 am, Friday, March 25, 2011, from the Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tommy Burke, and Minister Denise McGill officiating. Burial to follow in the Rock Springs Christian Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, March 24, 2011. Mr. Wier died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Wedowee Hospital. Mr. Wier is survived by his wife, Voria Mozelle Wier of Roanoke; four nieces, Donna Baldwin, Ginnie Prater, Mary Neilson and Julia White; five nephews, Steve Wier, Bobby Wier, Al Gay, David Wier and Larry Wier. Pallbearers will be Preston McGill, James McGill, Steve Wier, Brandon Wier, William Mintz and Michael Bates. Mr. Wier was born, May 1, 1918, the son of Swance Scott and Ora Lee Entrekin Wier. He was a member of the Green Chapel Methodist Church, and had been a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Wier served in the United States Army between 1941 and 1945 during WWII and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Wier was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Tom, Bill, Robert and Albert Maxwell Wier; one sister, Virginia Gay. Condolences may be expressed at www.quattlebaumfuneralhome.com.
