OBITUARY Funeral services for, Mr. Herbert Gene Sherman, age 82, of Roanoke, will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 20, 2011, from the New Hope Christian Church with the Revs. Zenus Windsor and W. F. Sheppard officiating. Mr. Sherman will lie in state from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm, at the church. Burial to follow in Mt. Zion Christian Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, May 19, 2011. Mr. Sherman died, Monday, May 16, 2011 at his home. Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Fincher Sherman of Roanoke; two step-daughters, Rosemarie (husband Roger) McDaniel of Valley; Patricia Tesch of Roanoke; one step-son, Harry (wife Kathy) Morsch of Roanoke; one brother, Gordon(wife Miriam) Sherman of Atlanta, GA; ten step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Marshall Griffin, Mark McCoy, Zachery Tesch, Roger McDaniel, George Cutchens, Michael Cutchens. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Marshall, Rex Marshall, Robert Tesch. Mr. Sherman was born, November 2, 1928, the son of William Lee and Annie Lou Robinette Sherman. He was a member of the New Hope Christian Church and was a self-employed business owner of a general merchandise and candy wholesale firm covering East Alabama and West Georgia for over sixty years. Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas W. Sherman and Charles William Sherman.
