Obituary of Philip C Johnson
Funeral services for Philip C. Johnson, age 70, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Baptist Church with Rev. Derek Farr and Rev. Doug Pitts officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Mr. Johnson will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday.
Mr. Johnson passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Virginia Diane Johnson of Roanoke; two daughters, Christie Vickery (husband, Stewart) of Shiloh, Ga, and Elandra Moon (husband, Greg) of Roanoke; two sons, Felix Johnson (wife, Nancy) of Opelika and Heath Johnson (wife, Patrina) of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margie Smith.
Pallbearers will be Benji Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Justin Johnson, Nick Johnson, Joel Etchison, and Brandon Etchison. Honorary pallbearer will be Rodney Smith.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Johnson was born on October 26, 1948, the son of Robert Clarence and Mary Artis Johnson. He was a pastor of True Faith Baptist Church in Cusseta, a veteran of the United States Army, and worked for the City of Roanoke as a police officer. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Allen Dale Johnson; a granddaughter, Holly Diane Johnson; a brother, Rayford Coy Johnson; and a sister, Venice Johnson.
