Funeral services for Charles Harold Hester, age 87, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Atkins, Rev. Fred Flowers, and Rev. O. J. Hodnett officiating.  Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Sunday, January 6 before services begin.

Mr. Hester passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at Traylor’s Retirement Center.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Anne Hester; two daughters, Glenda Atkins (husband, Mike) and Gina Daniel (husband, Greg), both of Roanoke; one son, Mike Hester (wife, Anita) of Ft. Payne, AL; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven Atkins, Andrew Atkins, Nick Hester, Jordan McBride, Matthew Daniel, Jacob Daniel and Eric Johnson.  Honorary pallbearers will be all of Mr. Hester’s great-grandchildren.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Hester was born on November 17, 1931, the son of C. J. and Docia Hardy Hester.  He was a member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a retired loan officer for Commercial Bank (now SmallTown Bank). Mr. Hester was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Hester; and one brother, Wyatt Dempsey Hester.
