Obituary of Sidney Wilson Herren

OBITUARY Funeral services for, Mr. Sidney Wilson Herren, age 93, of Roanoke, will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2011, from the Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Grady Evans officiating. Burial to follow in Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Mr. Herren died May 30, 2011 at East Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Herren is survived by three daughters, Margie (husband Jerome) Bowen of Roanoke, Brenda Thrower of Opelika, Louise (husband Jack) Smith of Roanoke; caregiver and grandson, Chris Smith of Roanoke; half-brother, James Harold Kirby of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Mr. Herren was born, April 23, 1918, the son of Ross and Victoria Johnson Herren. He was a member of the First Church of God, had worked as a textile slasher for Handley Mills and served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Herren was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Nolen Herren; parents; two brothers, six sisters. Flowers will be accepted or donations to the First Church of God Building Fund.
