Funeral services for Hoyt McWhorter Dobbs, Jr., age 90, of Roanoke, will be held at 2:00 pm (CST) on Friday, January 31, 2020, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church with John Saunders officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 pm (CST) on Friday. Mr. Dobbs died on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Piedmont Columbus Regional –Midtown in Columbus, GA. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Dobbs of Roanoke; one daughter, Kim Bailey (Craig) of Thomasville, GA. Pallbearers will be John Hodges, Raymond Hare, Sid Hare, Jerry Bryant, Roger White, and Kevin Smith. A Collinsville, Alabama native, Mr. Dobbs was born February 19, 1929, the son of Hoyt McWhorter Dobbs, Sr. and Ethel Dooley Dobbs. He was a graduate of Athens College and Peabody College (Vanderbilt University) and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Dobbs was a lifelong educator, retiring from Southern Union State Community College in 1993. He was a member at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Roanoke where he served as organist for many years. Mr. Dobbs was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edith Dobbs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Southern Union State Community College Foundation, 750 Roberts Street, Wadley, AL 36276.
