Obituary of Ruth Chandler Spears

Funeral services for Ruth Chandler Spears, age 90, of Orlando, FL, formerly of Roanoke, AL, and Barnesville, GA, will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeff Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Highway Cong. Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 AM on Thursday before services begin. Mrs. Spears passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Westminster Towers in Orlando, Florida. Survivors include: one daughter, Wanda Whittington (Richard) of Orlando, FL; one granddaughter, Laura Matthews (Mark) of Orlando, FL; one great-grandson, Chase Arnold; two sisters, Dean Chandler Cost (Wayne) of Abbeville, AL, and Linda Chandler Corbett (Gary) of Whitney, TX; and five brothers, James Chandler (Judy) of Jacksonville, FL, Paul Chandler (Shirley) of Melrose, FL, Phil Chandler (Pat) of Abbeville, AL, Tom Chandler (Laura) of Liberty, TN, and Dan Chandler (Glenda) of Jacksonville, FL. Pallbearers will be Richard Whittington, Mark Matthews, Chase Arnold, Philip Chandler, Jerry Chandler, and Michael Henderson. An Elmore County, Alabama native, Mrs. Spears was born on January 20, 1930, the daughter of William Jesse and Mattie Mae Brown Chandler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville, GA, and worked in quality control for a clothing manufacturer. Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, Willie Jewell Spears; three sisters, Eula Chandler Hall, Lois Chandler Thomas, and Betty Chandler Cost; and two brothers, Bill Chandler and Herman Chandler.
