OBITUARY Funeral services for Joe Thomas "Tom" Carden, age 83, of Roanoke will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Floyd Carmack and Rev. Anthony Herren officiating. Mr. Carden will lie in state at the church for one hour before the service. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Mr. Carden died June 29, 2011 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Mr. Carden is survived by two daughters, Jean (Raymond) Henry of Lanett, Sandra Carden Densmore of Roanoke; one son, Stephen Mark (Wanda) Carden of Roanoke; one sister, Sara Nell Dye of Saltillo, MS; special friend, Janice Studdard of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Neal Henry, Roby Carden, Amanda Sprout, Chris Studdard; four great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ben Beaird, Frank Benford, Wayne Hanson, Gentry Sprout, Chris Studdard, Lankford Brown and Neal Henry. Mr. Carden was born, July 26, 1927, the son of Escar Lincoln and Sara Felicia Gross Carden. He was a member of the Antioch Christian Church, had been a tie-in-operator for West Point Pepperell Shawmut Mill, and had served in the United States Army. Mr. Carden was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Elizabeth Cook Carden; his parents; two brothers, Frank and Harold Carden; one son, Joe Thomas Carden, Jr; one son-in-law, Lyn Hester.
