Obituary of Tommy Gene Young

Funeral services for Tommy Gene Young, age 73, of Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Whaley, Bro. Derek Farr, Bro. S. T. Janney, and Bro. Micah Farr officiating.  Burial will follow at Heritage Baptist Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00-2:00 PM on Tuesday before services begin.

Mr. Young passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020, at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Joan Young of Roanoke; two daughters, Becky Farr (Derek) of Roanoke and Brooke Young of Opelika; one son, Brock Young (Jennie) of Auburn; six grandchildren, Micah Farr, Katie Farr, Annsley Farr, Nathan Young, Noah Young, and Abram Young; and a sister, Patricia Robinson Pound (Archie) of LaGrange, Ga.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Shan Young, Swain Young, Shaphan Young, Michael Cook, Alan Davis, and Emil Jordan.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Robinson and Terry Robinson.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Young was born on September 16, 1946, the son of Tommie Newt and Annie Bell Wood Young.  He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and worked as the HR Manager at Candlewick Yarns.  Mr. Young loved the Lord and pastored at several churches including Macedonia Baptist Church in Wadley, Southside Baptist Church in Roanoke, and Mellow Valley Baptist Church for 15 years, and was Assistant Pastor at Faith Baptist Church for eight years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnny Young; and sister, Linda Gail Young.
