Memorial services for Paul Joseph Swisher, age 82, of Roanoke, will be held on September 3, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel. Mr. Swisher passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.

Mr. Swisher was born in Miami, FL on August 14, 1938 to Jeffrey and Pauline Swisher. He graduated Miami High School in 1956 and joined the Coast Guard in 1957, from which he retired in 1977 with the rank of Lieutenant. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Mr. Swisher was a professional fisherman for many years before he became a Pinzgauer cattle farmer. He raised many prized cows during his tenure as a farmer in Roanoke. He was an avid historian and had a particular passion for antique bottles manufactured locally in Roanoke.

He is survived by his beloved Barbara Wesson; brother Daniel Swisher; son Paul Swisher Jr. (Theresa Swisher); daughter Mary Swisher; step-son Billy Betz; grandchildren Lauren Bonaventura, Amanda Swisher, Jennifer Hanson, Jessica Gambino, and TJ Lawson; great-grandchildren Olivia Swisher, Aubrey Storbeck, Kelsey Storbeck, Daniel Singletary, Hannah Widemann, Anthony Sheerer, Gary Hanson, Jakob Sheerer, and Roscoe Gambino.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Ida Ansley; brother Johnathan Swisher; son Jacques Marcoux Swisher; and step-daughter Jana Lawson.

The family requests in lieu of gifts that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Mr. Swisher's name.
